Philippians 2:4-6
"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,"
Oh what a difficult thing for some of us Christians to do, myself being one of the biggest strugglers. It is so easy for us to think solely of ourselves yet it is so important to do just the opposite. Verses 5 & 6 give us the reason why it is so important. They say to think of the interests of others, because that is what our savior did for us. Not the simple "you can go ahead of me in line" way, but giving up his life for a people who were (and are) entirely undeserving. God's only son, gave up his equality with his father for us. A magnificent priceless tapestry, willingly taken down from the wall where it hung with its equal, made into a doormat to be stepped on and destroyed.
If our savior made the ultimate sacrifice to save such an unworthy people, how can we not strive to treat others in a similar way with love and sacrifice, thinking and acting not only for ourselves, but for others, to show god's love to believers and non.

Amen Aaron, Jesus is our example! An observation on what Jesus did: Jesus looked out for our best interest by doing something that we did not even know could be done. Jesus knew what was best for us and did it. He saved us when we were too stupid to even know by our pride that we needed to be saved. This is an aspect as to how we should look out for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Brainstorm and think and look beyond yourself as to what our d-group members, brothers, need. What do they need? Let's start with what are their "needs." How can we help? Where are they at in life? What are they doing right now? What is Jake occupying his time with? What does Arun do after work? Who is Brian bringing to Thursday COW at the Currie's? How many burritos has Ricky eaten so far this summer :)? Seriously though, we need to first get involved with each other's lives before we will ever know what our "needs"/"interests" are. We need to be involved with each other to know what our needs are. I have no idea what Aaron is doing this summer. How could I ever look out for his interests if I don't know anything about his life right now.
Father, May we trust God to make this happen. Change us by the power of the Holy Spirit. Let us look to Jesus in the Scriptures to see our example. Let us be like Jesus for Your glory. Amen!
